One Reason for the High Cost of Worker’s Comp Insurance

One nail?  You are not too bright, but accidents do happen.  12 nails?  You are a dumbshit.  Waiting till the next day to go to the ER?  Congratulations on being named DSotW.

An Oregon man is lucky to be alive after shooting himself in the head with a nail gun 12 times.

Gotta love the high tech surgical intrument that saved this guys life though.

Well Duh…

Angst ridden teenagers who are fascinated with death are more likely to harm themselves. Wow, who would have imagined that?

“Although only fairly small numbers of young people identify themselves as belonging to the Goth subculture, rates of self-harm and attempted suicide are very high among this group,” said Robert Young, lead researcher of the Glasgow University study.

I wonder where I can get a grant to find out if alcoholics are more likely to get drunk?

There will be a short intermission

… as the first phase of tax season winds down and I attempt to fix the theme of this board. So don’t expect many updates for the next week; I will be taking my son to the aquarium and maritime museum in Long Beach / San Pedro, prodding my web guy to fix this site, and wrap up an audit and a few tax returns.

Thank you for your cards and letters and frankly, your restraint.

Seriously, next time use the mattress

If you’re going to hide your money, I’m thinking using the trash can isn’t the most clever idea:

TOKYO (Reuters) – A Japanese man wept for joy this week when he recovered 5 million yen ($42,210) in cash his wife had mistakenly thrown out with the household rubbish.

The 35-year-old man had withdrawn the money from a bank account but, fearing it would be stolen, he hid it inside a refuse bag which he placed in a rubbish bin, Japanese media said.

His wife unknowingly threw out the bag, which was found last month at a refuse collection point outside an apartment building in Saitama, north of Tokyo.

Local police returned the money after the man was able to give details of the exact amount and where he had withdrawn it.

Many Japanese keep large quantities of money hidden in their homes and cash is often used for business transactions.

Post-op Sheehan’s back in Texas

Fresh on the heels of recovery from his successful sex-change operation, Bob Sheehan (formerly Cindy) has returned to Texas to restart his protests near the President’s ranch in Crawford. “I’ve got a fresh look, a new perspective, and, well, let’s face it, my legs look a lot better in shorts now, by default.”

Sources close to the protester said that he had resented being called “the Peace Mom”, and no longer wanted to be “living a lie”. Well, at least THAT lie.
